Our Program

Summit Montessori School is an independent school with a Montessori philosophy. We embrace new methods and ways of teaching while retaining the concepts of Maria Montessori, whose revolutionary ideas made her namesake schools so successful in the 20th century.

At Summit, we respect the individual child; with teacher guidance, each student pursues a curriculum that is tailored to his or her own strengths and interests. We believe that children learn most effectively when they are responsible and accountable for their work. The result is a more confident learner.

Summit adheres to the “prepared environment” that Maria Montessori advocated; that is, our classrooms stimulate students to choose their own activities and work at their own pace. As a Montessori school, we adhere to the idea that children learn best by first understanding the concrete, and then moving to the abstract. Our faculty teaches to the highest standards - every child works to his or her maximum potential - but we make it a point to listen to the student’s needs.

Walk through our halls, and you will find harmony in the classrooms. What will you see? Some children in lessons, others exploring sensory materials. Students reading in small groups and independently. A kindergartner writing a story while nearby a first-grader engages in spelling games. Active learners engaged in discovery.
